The Outing‘s Joanne Mitchell will direct psychological horror Sybil, based on a Dominic Brunt script about a lonely mortician and her macabre quest for the perfect family.

The pic, which will star Rebecca Calder, James Fleet, and Sacharissa Claxton, is billed as a ‘twisted tale’.

Principal Photography recently began in Belgrade.

“We have an extraordinarily talented cast and crew to bring the bizarre and macabre world of Sybil to life,” said Mitchell. “I love the psychology behind the horror genre, and Sybil is a story that will make the audience squirm in their seats. I have been wanting to make it for many years”.

Meantime, Radio Silence (Scream) will direct a new take on Escape from New York for 20th Century Studios.

The film, which original Escape helmer John Carpenter will executive producer, is the latest incarnation of a proposed reboot of the Snake Plissken-centered series of movies. Early rumors that Kurt Ruusell might be back to reprise his role as Plissken have not been confirmed.

Leigh Whannell had been most recently set to write a remake of the classic 1981 film.
