Constantine and John Wick star Keanu Reeves has pulled out of plans to headline new TV series The Devil in the White Series.

Set at Hulu, the long-gestating adaptation of Erik Larson’s novel would’ve seen Reeves play Daniel H. Burnham, a demanding but visionary architect who races to make his mark on history with the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. The series, which would’ve been the actor’s first TV gig, would also fix on Dr. H. H. Holmes, America’s first modern serial killer and the man behind the notorious “Murder Castle” built in the Fair’s shadow.

The eight-episode series, expected to film next year, will now have to find a new star.
