So, why exactly is “Justice League” alum Ben Affleck slapping the cowl back on for another DC flick – particularly considering he’d sworn off returning as Bruce Wayne!?
It’s like this : When Warner Bros were forced to delay “The Flash”, they moved “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” up.
In the former, Affleck appears as Batman – only briefly and up – until a point in the movie where Michael Keaton’s ’89 Caped Crusader takes over as the DCEU Caped Crusader. From then on, in subsequent DCEU movies like “Batgirl” (which will also now not release until after “The Flash”), Keaton will run the Batcave.
Since the “Aquaman” sequel was going to release after “The Flash”, and Keaton was expected to have been reintroduced to audiences as the Batman by that stage, the Oscar winning actor was hired to shoot a scene with star Jason Momoa. Now that the release dates have shifted, and since it would’ve understandably confused audiences (*and did some!), Warner have been forced to reshoot Keaton’s scenes with Affleck. Simple.
*Test audiences that got to see Keaton’s Batman in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” were reportedly confused why he was playing Batman and Affleck wasn’t.
