Sundance darling Dakota Johnson – who entertained wintery attendees with latest gem Cha Cha Real Smooth – has been caught in Sony’s web.
The “Fifty Shades of Grey” alum will play the first female superhero in Sony’s Marvel series of films, snagging the role of Madame Web in an upcoming “Spider-Man’ spin-off (According to our Rafe Oman on Twitter, Jenna Ortega was also on the shortlist for the part).
Created by writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr, Madame Web first surfaced as Cassandra Webb, an older woman with myasthenia gravis, connected to a life support system resembling a spiderweb.Later, she’d pass on her powers to Julia Carpenter. The character’s most known incarnation is that of the former, a paralyzed, blind, telepathic, clairvoyant, and precognitive mutant.
In September 2019, Sony announced that Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama were writing a “Madame Webb” movie. Three years later, Fanning is revealed as the film’s star.
No word on a director or release date yet.
