Scream star and director spill new sequel details

The fifth film in the series hits the big screen next month

Paramount Pictures

Courteney Cox is back in front of media this week being pumped for answers about January’s “Scream” revival.

The actress, who reprises her Gale Weathers role for a fifth (and final?) time, told Total Film (via Hello Sidney) that quite a bit has changed since we saw her pesky reporter in “Scream 4”.

“Gale now works on a morning show. She has the respect of a job where she gets to call the shots, and has an audience that is tuning in just for her. She’s in a better place, as far as her professional life goes. I don’t think that personally she’s in a great place. But, you know, she’s very selfish, so I’m not sure she’s ever going to be one to find happiness in that way.”

“Scream”, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, opens in cinemas next month. It reunites original cast members Cox, Neve Campbell and David Arquette with a hot young cast including.

“This new cast of characters is so wonderful. The legacy cast, they’re so wonderful. I think what we discovered, and what [screenwriters] Guy [Busick] and James [Vanderbilt] did, is they found a real reason for the next story to exist. We know that there is more gas in the tank. There are more stories to be told in Woodsboro, and about these characters, for sure,” told director Tyler Gillett.
