John Cena to play Marvel’s next Sandman!?

The “Fast 9” actor won’t play the same version Thomas Haden Church does

Universal Pictures

John Cena has been high on Kevin Feige’s wishlist for a while now. The “Fast 9” and “The Suicide Squad” actor has proved himself a viable box office commodity, not to mention a decent leading man, so no surprise that Marvel might have something for him – and sooner rather than later.

Latest rumour has it that the 44-year-old actor, who next appears in HBO Max’s “Peacekeeper” series, has had talks with the Marvel about portraying the MCU’s version of Sandman.

Sandman first appeared in live-action form in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 3” in 2007, portrayed by Thomas Haden Church, and returns for another round with Peter Parker in next month’s “Spider-Man : No Way Home”. But as we’ll learn via that film markedly, the multiverse is swimming with different incarnations of the same character.

The Massachusetts-born thesp’s version of Sandman would no doubt be incorporated into Tom Holland-led “Spider-Man” movies going forward.
