A new “Exorcist” trilogy, to be written and directed by David Gordon Green and produced by Blumhouse, has been snagged by Universal Pictures.
Ellen Burstyn, who played Chris MacNeil – Regan’s mother – in the original William Friedkin classic, will reprise her role alongside Leslie Odom Jr.
According to The New York Times, Uni and its streaming service Peacock “have closed a $400 million-plus megadeal” to buy the new series of films.
In the first of the new films, Odom Jr. plays “the father of a possessed child” who “tracks down” Chris MacNeil to help.
“The first film in the trilogy is expected to arrive in theaters in late 2023. Under the terms of the deal, the second and third films could debut on Peacock, according to one of the people briefed on the matter.”
