When the original The Purge released in 2013, even its creators would’ve likely balked at the idea that it would still be kicking in 2021. But the smash-hit thriller franchise has proved itself to have legs in the past eight years, resulting in three film sequels and even a television series on the USA Network.
That legacy is soon drawing to a close with the impending release of what will be the final instalment in the Purge franchise. Directed by Everardo Gout (The Terror, Luke Cage, Banshee), The Forever Purge will follow a young Mexican couple who become the prey of a group who aren’t exactly pleased with the abolition of the Purge, which fans of the series will recall happened in The Purge: Election Night.
Following the presidential elections from the last year and abolition of the Purge, a Mexican couple escaping from a drug cartel is stranded on a Texas ranch. There, they will be at the mercy of a group of outsiders who plan to unlawfully continue their own Purge, and turn against the couple to eliminate them.
The Forever Purge stars Ana de la Regeura, Tenoch Huerta, Josh Lucas, Cassidy Freeman, Leven Rambin, Alejandro Edda and Will Patton.
Originally slated for theatrical release in July 2020, The Forever Purge was delayed by Universal Pictures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. An official poster and brand new trailer have been revealed, and the film will be hitting screens July 2. Check it out below, and be sure to let us know how you feel about The Purge coming to an end!
