The new “Saw” film, “Spiral : From the Book of Saw” nabbed the number one spot at the box office this weekend but the numbers, I think it’s fair to say, are a little lackluster.
The Chris Rock starrer pocketed only USD $8.7 million over the weekend, lower than the industry forecast of $14.8 million, suggesting audiences aren’t flocking back to theaters just yet. By comparison, “Godzilla vs. Kong” and “Tom & Jerry” chalked up fatter numbers. At the same time, the Darren Lynn Bousman directed horror film wiped the floor with the $3.7 million made by Guy Ritchie’s “Wrath of Man”, which was the number one film last weekend.
As “Spiral”, like most horror films, likely had a significantly lower budget than most studio releases, it’ll likely still make a profit – enough to guarantee another “Saw” film won’t be too far away.
