‘Freddy vs. Jason’ writers want to do sequel

While it’s unlikely to come to fruition – Robert Englund seems to think he’s too told to pull on the Christmas jumper, and New Line seems to have moved on from sequelizing the two-hander battle royale – the writers of the “Freddy vs. Jason” say they’d love to do another.

“We still want to get it made! We would always love to do another one,” Damian Shannon and Mark Swift said on Twitter. “But it’s always good to get fresh eyes on the material, no? We’ve had our day. We’ve written for Jason more than any other writer, I think. Let someone new come in and give it fresh blood!” I doubt it’ll ever happen, but gosh, it would be nice.”

The initial idea for a sequel, you might recall, was to pit Freddy and Jason against Bruce Campbell’s ‘Ash’ from the “Evil Dead” series. While the movie version was nixed, the story was translated into comic book form a few years back.

It’s more likely we’ll see standalone Freddy and Jason – or “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Friday the 13th” films – in the future, but at the moment, both genre icons are still making out with mothballs.

I wonder, would a “Freddy vs Jason 2” work if it wasn’t Robert Englund and Ken Kirzinger behind the masks?
